誰にも恋をせず、誰とも同居したくない友人と、カフェで話をしていた。話題は私たちの共通の冗談である、「老後は孤独になりそうな人同士で寄り集まって共同住宅を造ろう」という話で、冗談というのは細部が命なので、私たちはごく真剣に諸条件を検討していた。六十五まで働いた後、パートタイムで七十くらいまで収入を得る可能性があるだとか、いやいや六十で退職する想定で安全側の試算をすべきだとか、介護を必要としない場合の一人あたまの家賃以外の費用はどの程度になるだろうかとか、土地はどこが良いだろうか、とか。
